Greenfield, MA: Guiding Star Grange

Screening held as a fundraiser for the Guiding Star Grange in Greenfield. Producer/Director Steve Alves will be on hand for a post-film discussion.

Guiding Star Grange #1, the first grange in Massachusetts was organized in 1873. The National Grange movement having begun only 6 years earlier as a farmers’ advocacy group. It was one of the first organizations to grant women equal standing to men. The Grange building serves the community as an internationally recognized dance hall, a farmer’s market and the home for the local scout troop. It also avails it’s space for local and national elections, a zumba class, the community choir meets here, and is available to rent for all sorts of events. Local “Grangers” also continue to organize support for local agriculture and related social causes, and are welcoming new members.
