SUMMARY:Anoka\, MN: "What Does It Mean To be a Co-op Today?" Discussion Series
DESCRIPTION:A 5-part series hosted by Dave Gutknecht of the Cooperative Grocer Network & Cerise Ligneel of Grassroots Co-op. 7:00 – 9:00 pm at Anoka City Hall Community Room \nOur first discussion will explore the role of the Cooperative in today’s communities and economy. \nWe’ll begin with a screening of the film Food for Change.  This excellent documentary shows the role cooperatives have played in different eras in U.S. History\, from their role in addressing the problems created by the Great Depression\, to the re-emergence of cooperatives in the 1960s\, and finally\, how cooperatives continue to be used by consumers and farmers to gain more control of their local economies. \nFollowing the film\, we’ll have 30 minutes of discussion. This will be an opportunity to make connections between historical co-operative movements\, starting with the Rochdale Pioneers in the United Kingdom in 1844\, and our current needs\, challenges\, and opportunities. \nThe movie screening on April 6th will be held at Anoka City Hall in the community room. All other sessions will be held at the co-op.
